Welcome to The Craven Academy website!
The Craven Academy of Performing Arts was founded in 1994 by Dr. Deborah Craven. Dr. Craven, or "Miss Debbie" as she is known by her students, began the Academy by providing music lessons in her Grayslake home. In 1997 growing demand necessitated moving the Academy to its present location at 408 Center Street in beautiful and historic downtown Grayslake.
The Craven Academy is committed to the highest standard of excellence in musical instruction. All teachers are certified to offer instruction in the "Miss Debbie" series developed by Deborah Craven. This methodology blends traditional and Suzuki music theories, making it possible for children as young as three years of age to learn to play the piano.
The Academy offers a wide variety of musical instruction: piano, voice, guitar, woodwind instruments, brass instruments, percussion instruments, chorus, repertoire and keyboard orchestration, music theory and pedagogy classes. Private lessons are one half hour each week although hour lessons can be arranged. Repertoire and chorus classes are held for one hour weekly. There is truly something for everyone!
